Annual Grill Master Showdown to Feature Barbecue Competition and Fundraiser for E. E. Waddell Community Center

The annual Grill Master Showdown will take place on Saturday, June 6th, at the E. E. Waddell Community Center, running from noon to 3:00 PM. The event is designed for barbecue enthusiasts, featuring over a dozen competing teams vying for trophies and cash prizes. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample barbecue from the teams while supplies last. The event includes music, games, and a family-friendly atmosphere. It is organized by the Friends of the E. E. Waddell Center, and proceeds from ticket sales, which are $20 at the door, will fund facility upgrades.

Stanly County Hosts First-Ever Drone Show 'Lights of Liberty' with Food, Music, and Giveaways

The city is hosting the 'Lights of Liberty Drone Show' on Friday, June 5th at City Lake Park, featuring 250 illuminated drones choreographed to music and narration, creating patriotic scenes. This event is the first of its kind in Stanly County and is organized by the America 250 NC Stanly County Committee. Leading up to the drone show, attendees can enjoy 'Food Truck Friday' from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM, with live music from Heartbreaker. Free shuttle service will be provided from Market Station in downtown Albemarle (501 West Main Street) from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM, running every 5-10 minutes, to help manage parking at City Lake Park. The America 250 NC Airstream trailer will also be on-site with an exhibit and free swag. Additionally, the City of Albemarle Electric Division and Electric Cities are giving away 800 LED light-up flags to the first 800 cars.
