Amherst Central School District Advances Major Capital Project with Phase Two Nearing Completion

The Amherst Central School District is undertaking a multi-phase capital project to improve its facilities. Phase two, the largest part of the project, is currently two-thirds complete and is expected to conclude by the end of the year. Phase one is already closed out, and phase three is upcoming. Specific upgrades include enhanced security measures like secure entrances and man-catcher style entries, new classrooms, playground enhancements, and loop additions for parent drop-off/pick-up at Windermir Elementary. Smallwood Elementary has also seen similar security enhancements, along with minor bathroom updates and IT room renovations. The middle school is converting its heating system from steam to hot water, which involves replacing boilers and classroom units, and is also receiving a secure entrance, public address system upgrades, and auditorium infrastructure improvements. The turf complex project, nearing its one-year anniversary of groundbreaking, involves four fields, a concession stand, lights, archways, and parking lots, with artificial turf installation underway and completion expected by late fall. The high school has had minor scope work, primarily addressing moisture issues at the auditorium, including roofing and plaster repair.
