Sycamore Township Gas Aggregation Expected to Offer Savings Amidst Utility Rate Changes
An update on gas aggregation was provided, noting that Duke Energy is increasing distribution charges. Duke has also changed its gas procurement process, now settling gas charges based on market rates plus an additional surcharge. The current aggregated gas rate is approximately $0.59-$0.64 per therm. The township is confident that their gas rate next year will be equal to or below the current rate, while Duke's rate could potentially double. The board authorized the administrator to sign a new gas aggregation agreement if the price is below the current aggregated rate, aiming for a rate of $0.55 per therm, with the new agreement expected to take effect in late summer.
Sycamore Township Approves Purchase Orders for Motorola Solutions, Culvert Repair, and Fire Department Vehicle
The board considered and approved three purchase orders. The first was a name change for Motorola Solutions, previously MobileCom, for $29,617.81, maintaining the same terms. The second was for roads development, an on-behalf payment of the OPWC for frame and review of culvert repair projects, totaling $7,629.40. The third purchase order was for the fire department, to McCluskey Chevrolet for a 2027 Chevrolet Equinox at $30,011.00, replacing a 20-year-old truck and being a budgeted capital item.
CIC Reports Lower Grant Totals for the Year; Central Region Leads in Grant Funding
The CIC (Community Improvement Corporation) board received an update on the economic development grant program. It was noted that grant totals are down from prior years. Central led with $16,984 in grants, followed by East ($15,735), Northwest ($14,923), and Southwest JADS ($3,997). The board was informed that the grant reporting is now done through new software with higher reporting capabilities. The grant totals were confirmed to be down from prior years, with a quick calculation suggesting a reduction of less than 5%.
Sycamore Township Board Approves Rate of Pay for New Employee
The Administrator presented a resolution setting the rate of pay for a newly hired township employee. The resolution was moved, seconded, and approved by the board.
Sycamore Township Declares Three Properties as Nuisances; Authorizes Demolition of Unsafe Structure
The board considered a resolution declaring three properties as nuisances: 12116 2nd Avenue, 7301 and 7311 Garden Road, and 12185 Snyder Road. The resolution authorizes the zoning administrator to initiate compliance actions. Subsequently, a motion was made to proceed with the demolition of one of these properties, identified as an unsafe structure where deadlines were not met and safety is a concern. The motion was seconded and approved.
