Courthouse Task Force Advances HG Hill Property for New Facility, Rejects Renovation

The task force considered the acquisition of the HG Hill property for a new courthouse and discussed alternatives to renovating the existing facility. A resolution to forgo rehabilitation of the existing courthouse and to move forward with site selection for new construction was adopted. Several alternative properties were reviewed, including the Kroger property, Jewel Tobacco warehouse, and the Community Service Building site, none of which were deemed as advantageous as the HG Hill property. The city's perspective on mixed-use development and the need for retail space was also discussed, alongside the potential future sale of the current Fourth Avenue courthouse site.
