Donation Item Removed from Agenda Pending Clarification of Contractual Agreements
Alderman Tilman raised concerns about item eight, a donation from the seventh ward, questioning its purpose and the lack of a community service contract. It was noted that the donation was made because a facility was used without charge. The council agreed to remove item eight from the agenda to allow for further clarification on the non-profit's community service contract, to be added to a future meeting agenda.
New Ordinance Proposed to Protect Minors from Tobacco and Vape Purchases
Alderwoman Harvey of the Health, Education, and Welfare committee announced plans to present legislation aimed at protecting youth under 21 and 18 from purchasing tobacco and vape products. She noted recent observations of minors buying these items in convenience stores and gas stations. The ordinance, if passed, would be reviewed by the Ordinance and Resolution committee.
Third Ward Town Hall Meeting Announced for Monday
Alderman Tilman of the third ward announced a town hall meeting on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Cauma City Public Library, encouraging third ward residents to attend.
Economic Development Director Search Item Removed from Agenda for Further Discussion
During the meeting, Alderman Tilman questioned the agenda item regarding a nationwide search for an Economic Development Director, specifically the phrasing 'spearheading the project' and its relation to current budgetary constraints and layoffs. Mayor Jones suggested removing the item from the agenda to discuss it further in a committee of the whole meeting on June 4th, noting that Alderman Gardner had inquired about economic development initiatives. It was decided to remove item eight from the agenda for further discussion.
Fourth Ward Representative Provides Contact Information and Announces Upcoming Meeting
Alderman Williams of the fourth ward requested residents with concerns about high grass or other community issues to contact him via phone (708-212-2240) or email (rwilliams@calmancity.org). He also announced a meeting on June 1st and advised residents to look out for posted signs. He concluded with a spiritual acknowledgment.
