City Approves Lease for Little Locals Community Carnival at Bryson Park
The City Council approved an ordinance authorizing a lease agreement with Little Locals for a one-day non-alcohol carnival event at Bryson Park District. The event will feature games, live music, face painting, food, a bounce house, and a petting zoo. The agreement includes a lease of $1 per annum and waives the rental fee for park facilities, allowing for the closure of Ash Street and a portion of Lakeshore Drive during the event on May 30, 2026. This ordinance was declared an emergency measure to facilitate the event's timely approval.
Anonymous Donation Funds New Canine Unit for Salina Police Department
The City Council accepted a donation of $16,000 from an anonymous donor via the Mercer County Civic Foundation to fund the purchase and training of a new canine unit for the Salina Police Department. This initiative is to replace the retired canine officer Peng. The ordinance authorizes the appropriation of these funds for the purchase and training, with an emergency clause to ensure the selection and training can commence by August 2026. The vehicle used by the current canine unit is aging and may require replacement in the next budget cycle.
City Council Approves Park Leases for Pink Anchor Foundation and Mercer County Support Squad
The City Council passed Ordinance 16-26-0, authorizing a lease agreement with the Pink Anchor Foundation for the use of part of East View Park. The ordinance was passed on its third reading. Additionally, Ordinance 17-26-0, authorizing a lease agreement with the Mercer County Support Squad for part of East View Park, was also passed after suspending the rules. This latter ordinance was declared an emergency due to a June 4th event date.
