Dante Stewart and Jimmy Lee Receive GC Pride Awards for Exemplary Contributions
The GC Pride Awards recognized two individuals for their exemplary contributions to the Gates Chili school community. Dante Stewart was honored for embodying the Spartan way through his sportsmanship, leadership in athletics and arts, and positive influence. Jimmy Lee was recognized for his selfless dedication, commitment, and service to students and athletics, demonstrating respect, integrity, determination, and excellence in his support of Gage Athletics. Both awardees received commendations for their positive impact on the school environment and student experience.
School Nutrition Program Continues Free Meals and Expands Summer Offerings
The school nutrition program is preparing for the upcoming year with continued community eligibility for free meals. The department has six cafeterias, over 40 nutrition members, and staff speaking over 10 languages. Changes include two retirements and internal promotions for new cook managers. The program adheres to state requirements for annual training and Serve Safe certification. Summer meal programs will be offered at multiple locations including the high school, Brasser, community center, Paul Road, middle school, and Gates Parks. Daily meals served average over 4,000, with breakfast participation at 42% (nearly doubled since 2022) and lunch participation at 73% (highest on the west side for suburban schools). Community involvement included the fall festival and staff wellness fair, and School Lunch Hero Day was celebrated.
District Secures $400,000 for Electric Buses Through Tax Filing; Facility and Budget Updates Provided
The finance and facilities update included discussions on the upcoming independent audit and the status of the internal audit. A reserve plan was presented for board adoption. Notably, the district successfully filed taxes to secure $40,000 per bus for its electric school buses, totaling $400,000 for 10 buses, with efforts underway to claim funds for five additional buses. This initiative maximizes available cash and maintains services. Facilities addressed concerns about external PA system volume, with adjustments made to balance safety and neighborhood noise. Discussions were held regarding naming conventions for facilities, with a potential board policy to be developed. Updates were provided on the Building Brighter Futures and Future Ready construction projects.
High School Extracurricular Report Highlights Diverse Student Activities and Achievements
The student extracurricular report covered various activities at the high school. Fifth graders toured the high school, participating in science experiments. Prom and 'Prime Time' were successful events. A DUI presentation was given, attended by Chief Long. A unified game against Penfield was held, fostering a positive environment. Students participated in a trip to Buffalo, including seeing 'Hairspray' and visiting an art museum. Other students attended the JA 'Women in Business' field trip. The annual award ceremony was successful, with many awards and attendees.
District Residents Approve 2026-27 Budget and Bus Purchase; Board Election Results Announced
District residents voted to approve the 2026-27 budget and the purchase of new school buses. Incumbent board members Michelle Jennings, Katherine Davis, and Adam Reinhardt secured three-year terms, while newcomer Angela Stout was elected to a one-year term. Angela Stout was sworn in and officially joined the board, while Adam Reinhardt's new term begins July 1.
