St. Anthony Parish Plans History and Charity Walk for 175th Anniversary
The St. Anthony Parish presented plans for a 'St. Anthony and St. Vincent dePaul History and Walk for the Poor' event, scheduled for October 10th at 10 a.m. as part of their 175th-anniversary celebration. The event aims to symbolically walk the parish's history, starting from its original site in Jeffersonville (1851), moving to its second location (1876), and concluding at the current campus on Stansford Avenue in Clarksville. The walk is also a fundraiser for the St. Vincent dePaul chapter. The parish is seeking guidance from the town council on necessary permits, departmental coordination, safety, traffic control, and potential assistance, as well as coordination with the City of Jeffersonville.
Arts Commission Seeks Funding for Public Art Mural on Public Works Building
The Town Council discussed a proposal for a mural on the Public Works building on Brown Station Way, intended to celebrate the history of the site as a former drive-in. The Arts Commission requested $15,000 for the project, which would cover the mural painting and lighting. A grant of $4,000 from the Indiana Arts Commission is being pursued by Tammy and Kendall, with results expected in July. The mural is planned to be completed by local or regional artists via a public RFP, with an estimated completion in summer or early fall.
Storage Connection Partners Seeks Tax Abatement for New Industrial Facility
The Town Council heard a request for guidance regarding the creation of an Economic Revitalization Area (ERA) and a petition for tax abatement for a proposed 130,000 square foot industrial facility by Storage Connection Partners. The project, located along US 31, has an estimated construction cost of over $10 million. The proposed tax abatement is 50% per year for 10 years, mirroring an abatement previously approved for Platform Park. The developer is seeking to have this added to the agenda for the next council meeting. Concerns were raised about granting tax abatements while potentially increasing taxes for residents, but it was explained that abatement savings are typically passed to tenants in triple net leases.
