City Council Approves Variances for QuickTrip Gas Station Signage
The city council considered variances for a new QuickTrip gas station and convenience store at 1996 West Henderson Street. The variances requested were to allow two signs instead of one, increase the height of a pole sign from a maximum of 20-30 feet to 65 feet, and increase the sign area from 100 square feet to 292 square feet. The property is zoned regional commercial and is located within the freeway overlay. The proposed signs are intended to improve visibility from Highway 67, especially given the presence of a four-story hotel to the west and a three-story hotel to the north. The council discussed that the current sign ordinance may not adequately address signage needs along the loop. Ultimately, all three variances were approved unanimously.
Cleburne to Apply for up to $21 Million in Water Infrastructure Grants
The city council approved a resolution authorizing staff to submit an application for the Water Supply and Infrastructure Grant Program. This program, funded by House Bill 500, offers up to 100% grant funding for eligible water supply and infrastructure projects, with no matching requirement. The City of Cleburne is eligible for up to $21 million in grant assistance. Staff identified several projects related to the city's long-term water supply initiative that would be applicable. The application deadline is July 30th, with selections expected in fall 2026 and grants available winter/spring 2026. Construction must be completed by early 2031. This is considered a rare and unique funding opportunity, and if awarded, the city will return to the council for separate actions to accept the grant and approve projects. The council expressed enthusiasm for the potential funding. The resolution only authorizes the submission of the application, not the acceptance of the grant.
