Fire Department Contracted for Grant Writing Services for SCBA Replacement
The board approved a contract with Crowley Emergency Services Consulting LLC for $3,000 to assist the fire department in writing a grant for the replacement of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) air packs. The consulting company is experienced in grant writing for municipalities.
Renovation of Former Woods Equipment Building Approved
An architectural review was approved for the renovation of the existing structure at 901 East North Side Drive, formerly the Woods Equipment building. The plan includes painting the brick and structure, renovating the rollup doors, opening up an additional bay, and installing building-mounted signs. Future upgrades may include closing street access and replacing damaged asphalt with concrete. The property is zoned C2.
New Nuisance Property Ordinance Increases Fines and Expands Scope
The board approved a new Nuisance Property Ordinance. This ordinance moves nuisance items from the zoning ordinance to their own ordinance, allowing for increased fines beyond the $100 limit under zoning. Fines are stepped: $100 for the first offense, $350 for the second, and $500-$1,000 for the third. The ordinance includes updated conditions for property maintenance, such as firewood, tree trimmings, limbs, down trees, and odor/stench issues, and failure to maintain garbage bins. The department will work with residents on timelines before issuing fines.
Resident Raises Concerns Over Unaddressed High Road Repairs
A resident expressed concern about the condition of High Road, which was supposed to be resurfaced and reconditioned two years ago using grant funds. However, funds were diverted to disaster cleanup after severe weather, and the road remains in poor condition, causing potential vehicle damage.
Food Truck Regulations Modified in C3 Zoning Districts
The board approved an amendment to the zoning ordinance regarding food trucks. The amendment removes food trucks as an allowed use in C3 zoning (full service and fast food restaurants) but they will still be allowed as a conditional use in C2 zoning. This aligns with current regulations in C2.
