City Council Work Session Meeting 6/3/2026
Wednesday, Jun 3, 2026
Cherokee Run Golf Course Clubhouse to Receive New Roof for $236,306.75
The council discussed the metal roof replacement for the Cherokee Run Golf Course Clubhouse. Bids were received, and the lowest qualified bidder was Mighty Dog Roofing, with a contract proposed for $236,306.75. The clubhouse roof is approximately 30 years old and has ongoing leaks requiring continuous maintenance and patching. The replacement is deemed necessary to maintain the clubhouse, which recently underwent significant renovation. The project is expected to take six weeks from the notice to proceed, with work potentially starting in July. The project includes contingency for deteriorated decking, insulation, trim, and siding. The color of the new roof has not been decided but is leaning towards modernization, possibly gray to match new golf carts and updated branding, contrasting with the current 1994 green.
New Alcohol Licenses Approved for Klondike Food Mart and K-Pot Korean BBQ
Councilwoman Mill presented requests for new retail beer and wine licenses. The first approval was for Nadim Khan for Royal Fuel, operating at the Klondike Food Mart located at 1353 Klondike Road. The second approval was for Kunyao Chin for K-Pot Korean BBQ and Hot Pot, located at 1360 Dogwood Drive, for beer, wine, and liquid consumption on premise. Both applications were for new license holders and were approved by the council.
Rezoning Proposal for 1150 Tinsley Drive to 'Downtown Center' to Enhance Economic Value
The council considered Ordinance 1476, which proposes to amend the official zoning map for real property at 1150 Tinsley Drive. The request is to rezone the property from the 'Downtown Edge' (DE) sub-area to the 'Downtown Center' (DCR) sub-area. The applicant seeks this change because the current 'Downtown Edge' zoning, primarily single-family residential, does not provide reasonable economic value. The 'Downtown Center' zone allows for a wider range of uses, including commercial activities like restaurants and bars, as well as residential use, making it a more mixed-use zone. The property is currently occupied by a single-family home. The planning commission will consider a recommendation on June 9th, with the item returning to the council on June 17th.
City Council Convenes Meeting, Proclaims Immigrant Heritage Month, and Addresses Budget and Zoning Matters
Mayor Olton called the meeting to order and initiated the invocation and Pledge of Allegiance. Following the approval of minutes from previous finance committee and council meetings, the council issued a proclamation for Immigrant Heritage Month, designating June 2023 as such. Councilman Anthony Pacheco spoke about the importance of celebrating immigrant contributions, recognizing various local businesses and organizations that support diverse communities. Citizens' comments were solicited but none were made. The council then proceeded to public hearings and new business items, including budget discussions, zoning amendments, environmental consulting contracts, and license approvals. The meeting concluded with a motion to enter executive session to discuss pending and potential litigation.
