Consent Agenda Includes PUD Amendments and Building Variation
Several land use and development items were included in the consent agenda for approval: an ordinance amending chapter 158 of the city code, a PUD amendment for 1501 Carlmont Drive, an extension of a PUD with a special use permit for self-storage, and a variation for 145 Illinois Street to allow an 8-foot by 20-foot porch addition.
City Secures $1 Million Grant for Lead Service Line Replacement Program
The council approved the consent agenda, which included the bid award for the 2026 lead service line replacement program. City staff, specifically Public Works and Finance, were congratulated for securing a $1 million grant from Bill Foster for this program, which will cover the costs of lead service line replacements.
Crystal Lake Pride Announces Annual Social and Walk Event
The Crystal Lake Pride board of directors, led by president Jim, announced their annual Pride social and walk event. The event will take place on Sunday, June 7th, starting at 11 AM and concluding at 6 PM. The walk route will begin at Crystal Lake Avenue and William Street, proceed down William Street, turn onto Woodstock Street, and return to the Brink Street parking lot via Grant Street. The festivities in the parking lot will include local queer musicians, a Blondie tribute band, a '90s pop rock tribute band, cornhole, food trucks, and approximately 40 artisan vendors and nonprofits.
Feasibility Study Requested for Downtown PA System for Events
A request was made to investigate the feasibility and cost of installing a public address (PA) system in the downtown area for event use, potentially located at Depot Park or other downtown locations. This investigation is to be determined regarding which city department will lead the effort.
City Council Mourns Loss of Shawn Tagmire
Council members acknowledged the passing of Shawn Tagmire, a local figure known for her positivity, work as a personal trainer, and dedication to running. Tagmire passed away from cancer the previous Thursday evening. Her husband was also hospitalized concurrently due to a heart attack, adding to the family's difficult time. Thoughts and support were extended to her family.
