Cutler Bay Honors Youth Soccer Champions
The town council recognized two successful youth soccer programs: Albon SC Miami and the Huevos 10-year-old girls competitive team. Albon SC Miami teams included the Girls 12 Academy (State Champions), Girls 14/15 Academy (South Florida Premier League Champions), and Boys 14 Academy (currently in league semi-finals and South Florida Cup winners). The Huevos team, comprising 90% Cutler Bay residents, went undefeated in their competitive division with 11 clean sheets. Coach Filipe Ramirez was also recognized.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission to Hold Public Meeting on Turkey Point Performance
Amber Donley from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission announced a public meeting to discuss the performance of Turkey Point Nuclear Station during the previous year. The meeting will be held at the town hall tomorrow from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, allowing residents to ask questions about the NRC's assessment process and the role of resident inspectors.
Legacy Park and Municipal Complex Project Update: Phase 1 Soil Remediation Delays, Phase 3 Bidding Underway
Emma Jones from Stantech provided an update on the 16-acre Legacy Park and Municipal Complex project. Phase 1 (GMP1 site remediation) awaits DRM approval for soil, expected by month-end. Phase 2 (GMP2) has a signed contract with Kaufman Lynn, and buyout is being finalized. Site plans for the new 212 have been approved, with storm water management plans pending. Phase 3 (GMP3 - vertical build and park remainder) has bids due June 7th, with 571 subs invited. Delays in Phase 1's soil remediation approval from DURM are due to conflicting data requiring further testing, but do not stop GMP2 activities.
Resident Addresses Meeting Decorum and Professionalism
During public comment, Barbara Condan apologized for her son's disruptive gesture at a previous meeting and stated that gossip has no place in public meetings, emphasizing that concerns should be investigated privately. She also congratulated the council for getting the Coastal Ridge Preserve application onto the A-list after six years and recognized Public Works Director Alfredo Cantero. Thomas Condan commended the town's exemplary professionalism and transparency but urged the council to ensure officially appointed residents uphold professionalism and do not leverage their positions for misinformation.
Franjo Road Improvements Project Nearing Completion, On Schedule for September 2026
Angel Turpin and Janet Delgado from Kimley Horn provided an update on the Franjo Road Improvements Project. Work zones 1, 2, and 3 are open to the public, with outstanding items being finalized. Work zones 4 and 5 are undergoing roadway reconstruction. Final asphalt lift, bus shelter installations, tree/sod work, and light poles are pending completion. Light poles are expected to be functional prior to final completion in September 2026. The project remains on track for completion by September 2026. Public information efforts focus on communication, addressing concerns, and ensuring safety and accessibility. Phases 4 and 5 will open to through traffic prior to final completion.
