New ATDM Maritime Training Center Opens, Bolstering National Defense Workforce

The Accelerated Training and Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) Maritime Training Center celebrated its ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the completion of a 107,000 square foot facility dedicated to workforce training for the maritime and defense sectors. The center features five training tracks, operates 24/5 with a one-to-one student-to-machine ratio, and boasts a six-to-one student-to-instructor ratio. To date, the ATDM program has graduated over 1,450 individuals with an 80-plus percent graduation rate and an 80-plus percent job placement and retention rate, supported by more than 300 industry partners. The initiative represents a significant investment of approximately $80 million in local, state, and regional funds aimed at strengthening the nation's maritime and defense workforce, particularly in shipbuilding and repair for the submarine industrial base. The ceremony also included the dedication of decommissioned submarine parts, the USS Buffalo sail and the USS Providence rudder, on the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) campus, symbolizing the connection between regional training and national defense efforts.
