City Council Approves Rezoning for Single-Family Development at 1700 West Walker
The City Council approved an ordinance to rezone the property at 1700 West Walker from the 2F2 two-family duplex residential district to the SF5 single-family residential district. This rezoning will allow the applicant to re-plat the four existing lots into two legal lots of record, each measuring 50 feet wide by 100 feet deep, to accommodate single-family development. The planning and zoning commission recommended approval, and the future land use plan depicts the area for neighborhood development, aligning with the request. The applicant, Scott Moody Homes, confirmed the necessity of the two legal lots for accessing utilities from the back alley. The motion to approve was made by Mayor Pro Tem Adams and seconded by Councilman Courtright, passing unanimously. Dennis Arts Council Reports Financial Dip, Festival Success, and New Executive Director Hire
The Dennis Arts Council provided a quarterly update on their activities and use of hotel occupancy tax (HOT) funds, reporting a significant dip in HOT revenues of approximately 40% since December, resulting in a $20,000 shortfall. Despite this, the council has sufficient carried-over funds. Marketing, advertising, and festivals remain the primary spending areas. The council highlighted their long-form blog used for advertising, featuring businesses and articles on art collecting. The North Texas Arts Festival, held at Katy Depot, attracted around 30 vendors, with most coming from outside the immediate area. Feedback indicated that vendors preferred indoor events and noted the importance of early vendor selection for next year's festival. The council also announced the upcoming hiring of a new Executive Director, Nancy Decker, who will start on June 15th and be fully integrated by August 15th, a move seen as essential due to the council's growth and increased grant management. The council emphasized their responsible stewardship of HOT funds, noting that other communities use similar funds solely for large infrastructure projects like stadiums.
