Township Approves Monday.com for Project Management and Enhanced Efficiency
The board discussed and approved the adoption of Monday.com, a project management online platform, to enhance efficiency and transparency. The platform allows for real-time project tracking, task assignment, document storage, and centralized communication. Initial costs for a five-user subscription are estimated at $1,140 annually, with an option to expand to ten users. The board decided to start with the five-seat subscription, with the possibility of adding more seats later. The platform is expected to improve workflow, especially in managing communications and tracking projects, moving away from paper-based systems.
April Police Report Details Investigations, Speeding Concerns, and Training
The Police Chief provided a report for April 2026, detailing various investigations, arrests, and enforcement activities. Key incidents included a death by unlawful taking charge, a bad check arrest, and apprehension of individuals with outstanding warrants. The department conducted speed studies on several roads, revealing speeds significantly exceeding posted limits, and also carried out speed enforcement details issuing numerous citations. Officers completed mandatory use of force training and accident reconstruction training. The department responded to 477 calls for service in the township and 161 in a neighboring area. The report also highlighted community support during Police Week and a new pedestrian safety education and enforcement grant.
Traffic Study Authorized for Route 272 and Wabash Road Intersection
The board authorized a traffic count study for the intersection of Route 272 North, Main Avenue, and Wabash Road. This follows concerns about tractor-trailer traffic causing significant backups and hindering left turns due to the lack of turn arrows. The traffic engineer estimates the study cost at approximately $1,400, which can be funded through the TIF if warranted. The study will determine if changes to the traffic signal heads are feasible.
Farmland Preservation Efforts Continue; Recycling Revenue Figures Clarified
The board reviewed information regarding a potential rezoning of farmland for agricultural security purposes. The Lancaster County Preservation Board indicated approval for funding to preserve a farm on South Greenstown Road, which is already in an 'A' zoning and agricultural security area and adjacent to another preserved farm. This preservation is considered noteworthy and ranked high due to its proximity to development pressure. The preserved farm status will be noted on the comprehensive plan update and zoning map. Separately, the board discussed the financial implications of recycling, correcting a previous newspaper report on the amount of funds received.
Township Explores Financial Incentives for Volunteer First Responders Under Act 172
The board is considering implementing Act 172, which would provide a financial incentive for volunteer first responders. Similar to practices in Warwick, the proposal involves an Earned Income Tax (EIT) credit of $250 for eligible volunteers, regardless of whether they paid EIT. This is seen as a token of appreciation rather than a recruitment tool. Criteria for eligibility, such as minimum participation in calls or events, are being developed. The board discussed the process, including adopting an ordinance, and the potential preference of departments for direct funding versus individual credits. The initiative aims to acknowledge the contributions of volunteers.
