Board of Education Meeting Features Recognitions, Policy Updates, and Operational Approvals

The Board of Education meeting commenced with a roll call, ethics awareness statement, and approval of the agenda, which included an addition for a freezer quote for Pasquotank Elementary School. Recognitions were given to school nurses, Mr. Eddie White, and participants in the 'Revolution in the Kitchen' cooking competition. The Community School Field Day winners, JC Sawyer fourth and fifth grade team, were celebrated. Outstanding elementary math teachers across seven schools were honored, with Mr. Andre Powell named the district's elementary math teacher of the year. The morning announcement crew, a group called 'The Flock,' and individual educators Jamie Teter and Leah, were also recognized for their contributions. The custodial staff was acknowledged for maintaining a safe school environment. Student board members Katherine, Natalie, and Cheyenne were thanked for their service and impact. The board then approved the consent agenda and discussed policy revisions to policy 6140. New business included approving Option B for the 2026-2027 alternative school modified accountability system and approving insurance renewals for general liability, errors and omissions, and vehicle insurance. A first read of revisions to policy code 8350 regarding fixed assets inventory was presented. Finally, the board approved the purchase of a freezer-cooler combo for Pasquotank Elementary School. The meeting concluded with a return to closed session.
