Parent Advocates for Neighborhood School Placement for Daughter
Chelsea Reeves addressed the board to request that her daughter, Raina Reeves, be allowed to start kindergarten at Glendal elementary school, as opposed to her assigned placement at Sackadaga. Reeves emphasized the strong community ties and established neighborhood relationships in the Glenn Oaks area, which is part of the Scotia Glennville community. She highlighted that many neighbors in their immediate vicinity are assigned to Glendal, and that Raina, as an only child, would benefit from attending school with her peers to foster social connections and a sense of belonging. Reeves also noted that while other families with younger children are able to attend Glendal due to older siblings, Raina's placement at Sackadaga isolates her from her neighborhood. She implored the board to reconsider Raina's placement as a special case, emphasizing the importance of social outlets and positive school experiences for her daughter, especially given their situation as older parents and Raina being their only child. Reeves also mentioned her own profession as an educator in a nearby district, underscoring the potential logistical benefits of a neighborhood school for support.
