Goleta Council Approves Vision Zero Action Plan Development
The Goleta City Council approved a Professional Services Agreement with TDG Engineering Inc. for the development of a Vision Zero Action Plan. This initiative aims to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries by focusing on safer roadway design, lower vehicle speeds, improved pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, and data-driven improvements. The project is funded by a $364,000 federal SS4A grant, supplemented by a $91,000 local match. The action plan will include developing a public safety dashboard, a public safety campaign, a neighborhood traffic calming toolkit, and a Safe Routes to School program. TDG Engineering will support these efforts, including creating an interactive public platform for safety data and proposed countermeasures.
Goleta City Council Approves Sandpiper Golf Course Renovation Project
The City Council of Goleta approved the Sandpiper Golf Course Renovation and New Clubhouse Project, which includes significant environmental improvements, rehabilitation of the historic Barnsdall Rio Grande gas station, new public trails, undergrounding of utility lines, enhanced landscaping, and a state-of-the-art clubhouse. The project also incorporates Alternative 4, which includes an extended Class 1 bikeway along Hollister Avenue, connecting to existing paths and promoting alternative transportation. The approval also involved a Conditional Use Permit, Development Plan with height and setback adjustments, and a conceptual Coastal Development Plan. Several conditions of approval were amended regarding the coffee shop's hours of operation and traffic fees.
Goleta City Council Sets Date for November 2026 Municipal Election
The Goleta City Council approved resolutions calling for and giving notice of a general municipal election to be held on November 3, 2026. This election will fill two City Council seats for Districts 1 and 2. The council also approved requesting consolidation with the statewide general election on the same date. The candidate filing period for these seats will be from July 13, 2026, to August 7, 2026. The terms for Councilmember Reyes-Martin and Councilmember Cariaco are ending.
