International Women's Day Event Deemed Successful, Financial Summary Presented

The final report for the International Women's Day event was presented, highlighting its success with over 150 attendees and four speakers. The event secured 12 sponsors, more than ever before, contributing to its financial success. Total expenses were $11,418.46, and total revenue was $9,239.54, resulting in a net loss. Suggestions to break even next year include passing registration fees to ticket purchasers. The change in date was identified as a key factor in the event's success, and a partnership with the Chamber of Women was also noted.

Community Development Block Grant Award Higher Than Projected, Funding Allocations Adjusted

An update was provided on the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) award. The actual allocation received from HUD was $294,400, which is higher than the projected $272,525 based on a 10-year average, and the highest amount received since 2010. The budget includes a contingency provision for award fluctuations. The allocation process involved giving an equal percentage increase to most recipients, with adjustments for Walnut Hill and Gan Interfaith to address significant funding challenges faced by Walnut Hill due to state voucher cuts and changes in reimbursement rates. First Flight Mission's allocation was reduced slightly due to these adjustments but still receives substantial funding through a combination of CDBG and a community service partnership grant. Remaining funds are allocated to energy conservation for housing, with potential reallocation if needed.

Upcoming Events and Future Neighborhood Walkabout Planning Discussed

Upcoming events were discussed, including a 'First Fridays' event for which a table is reserved, requiring volunteers for setup and tear-down. The organizer will be out of town. Suggestions for future neighborhood walkabouts included the Shanklin Mill Race and Historic Race Mirror neighborhoods, with consideration for the East Link Crossroads neighborhood despite a lack of current leadership. Planning for these walkabouts is expected to begin for August, September, or October. The Indigenous People's Day event, associated with First Fridays, was successful last year and involved reaching out to the Pagan Band, which was challenging.

Neighborhood Engagement Efforts Show Mixed Results; Chamberlain Picnic Planned

Daniela from LCSA provided an update on neighborhood outreach efforts. Efforts to engage residents in the neighborhood adjacent to the high school, which lacks a formal name, have faced challenges, with low turnout at events like 'First Friday' and a block party, despite RSVPs. Follow-up conversations with interested individuals are ongoing, with two people expressing interest in leadership roles. A separate initiative involves planning a neighborhood block party for the Chamberlain neighborhood on June 13th, focused on creating connection and engagement through a neighborhood meal. This collaboration involves parks and residents, and the group is on schedule. The goal is to identify potential leaders to restart the neighborhood association. Outreach efforts also include connecting with future residents of the 'Aerial Cycle Works' building, exploring tours and engagement opportunities.
