City Approves Sale of Excess Property to Realm Construction
The Board of Aldermen approved Bill Number 7911, an ordinance approving a real estate sales contract with Realm Construction Incorporated for the sale of excess property not required for municipal service purposes. Citizens Academy Graduates Share Learnings and Are Encouraged to Recruit
Graduates of the 2026 Citizens Academy were recognized. Participants shared key learnings, including how fire extinguishers work, how city capital is used, the city's credit rating and financial management, the efficiency of city operations with limited staff, the new fire truck, the city's ability to provide excellent service, the existence of a SWAT team, and that the city's DMV department is contracted and managed by city employees, not the state. The graduates were encouraged to recruit for the next class.
Community Mourns Becky Davis; Alderman Jones Praises Youth Talent
Alderman Rodney, whose family previously owned the Jackson County Advocate, announced the passing of Becky Davis, who had continued ownership of the newspaper until its end. Becky Davis passed away yesterday at the age of 70. Alderman Jones shared positive observations from speaking at Graview Middle School's graduation and attending a school board meeting, emphasizing the talent of the community's youth and the importance of continued community involvement.
