The city council reviewed and approved the fiscal year 2027 budget on first reading, which includes a four-penny property tax increase, taking the tax rate to 1.7471. This increase is primarily to cover the maintenance of effort for schools and additional employee costs. The budget also addresses bond proceeds reallocation for capital projects, including turn lanes at Roof Taylor Road and tennis complex renovations, and includes provisions for storm water improvements, although the specific projects within that allocation are subject to further review by a new city manager. Various other funds, such as solid waste, landfill, and state street aid, were also discussed and adjusted within the budget.
Agreement Approved for Eagle's Rest Pocket Park Improvements Funded by DIG Grant
The council approved an agreement with Main Street Greenville for improvements to the Eagle's Rest Pocket Park. This agreement is part of the documentation for the Downtown Improvement Grant (DIG grant), where Main Street Greenville allocated $50,000 for public improvements. The town has already committed its local match of $175,000 for the park, with approximately $171,000 spent to date. Remaining funds will cover an archway, railing, and potentially a water station. The agreement formalizes the process for reimbursement from the grant funds.
