North Park Structures to be Donated to Morland Family and Rodeo Association
The Board of Aldermen approved Council Bill 12, which authorizes the mayor and city administrator to donate structures at North Park, including the North Park Arena and surrounding facilities, to the Morland family and the rodeo association. These structures must be removed by July 4th at their own expense, with no cost to the city. The donation is part of the North Park redevelopment efforts.
Aldermen Approve Non-Sales Tax Generating Fitness Center in TIF District Despite Staff Concerns
The Board of Aldermen discussed and approved Council Bill 13, concerning a request to allow a non-sales tax generating business, TR Fitness (Tony Abbott), to operate in the town center TIF (Tax Increment Financing) plan district. While staff recommended against approval due to the TIF's focus on sales tax generation and a 20% limit on non-sales tax generating businesses, the board ultimately approved the request. Concerns were raised about the TIF's purpose, the applicant's business model, and the proposed metal building not meeting current zoning regulations, which would require separate approval. The site has been vacant for years, and the TIF is set to expire in 2028.
City Approves Budget Amendment for Water Line and Airport Projects
The Board of Aldermen approved a budget amendment to allocate funds for engineering services related to the Wall Street raw water line transmission project and the south hanger taxi lanes at the Lawrence Smith Memorial Airport. The raw water line project requires immediate payment for engineering, with reimbursement anticipated in June. The airport project has received a 95% grant for final engineering services, with the city responsible for the remaining $3,444 of the $68,800 cost. Council Bill 14, an ordinance amending the operating budget for the fiscal year 2026, was passed and is now ordinance 3766.
Harrisonville Soccer Club Donates 9 Acres for Development, City Approves Agreement
The Board of Aldermen approved Council Bill 11, authorizing the mayor and city administrator to enter into a real estate donation contract with the Harrisonville Soccer Club. The club will donate approximately 9 acres of land located at South Jefferson Parkway. In return, the city will grant the soccer club access to soccer fields and equipment, along with preferred scheduling for their future fields. Staff recommended approval, citing a positive working relationship with the club.
