Saundersville Station Approved for Solar Street Lights After Conduit Installation Failure
The commission reviewed and approved a site plan for solar street lights at Saundersville Station. The original contractor failed to install conduit for street lights, necessitating the solar solution. The applicant proposed seven solar street lights as an efficient alternative that minimizes disruption. The lights have a 2000 lumen output, comparable to traditional LED lights, with customizable brightness modes and motion sensors. The HOA will be responsible for maintenance and replacement, with batteries lasting 4-5 years and lights/panels lasting 20 years. Concerns were raised about potential light degradation over time and the impact of seasonal sunlight changes, but staff noted the battery can hold a 30-hour charge and charges even on cloudy days. The commission also discussed the difference in pole design compared to existing streetlights and the HOA's agreement to maintain the new lights. The project was ultimately approved.
