Hillsboro Commends Patrolman for Heroic Actions During Barn Fire
Patrolman Christopher Wackenman is recognized for his heroic actions during a fire at 889 Amwell Road. While en route to the 2026 Police Unity Tour, he observed flames from a barn window. He responded to ensure no children or animals were inside, called 911, and entered the burning barn to remove power equipment and a gas can, preventing the spread of fire. He then located the owner and evacuated the residence. While waiting for the fire department, he assisted with traffic and rescued a small dog running into traffic. The proclamation commends his efforts and commitment to the residents of Hillsboro.
Hillsboro Announces National Night Out and Fire Hydrant Painting Initiative
Hillsboro Police are hosting their annual National Night Out event, which features the participation of all first responders and is described as a wonderful evening. Additionally, a fire hydrant painting initiative is underway in partnership with New Jersey American Water and Sherwin Williams. This project aims to give fire hydrants a patriotic makeover in time for the Fourth of July, bringing back a classic bit of nostalgia.
Hillsboro Proclaims Water Safety Month, Announces Family Funday, and Advises on Wildlife Activity
Hillsboro Township has proclaimed May 2026 as National Water and Safety Awareness Month, urging residents to recognize the importance of water safety education. Additionally, the township is preparing for its annual Family Funday and Fireworks event on Saturday, June 27th at Auton Road Intermediate School, which will also serve as a celebration for the United States semi-quincentennial (250 years of independence). Residents are also advised about increased local wildlife activity, particularly carpenter bees, which become more active in warmer weather. While these bees are part of the ecosystem and generally docile, visitors are encouraged to be mindful and give them space to ensure a peaceful environment for both residents and pollinators.
Hillsboro Recognizes Girl Scout for Gold Award Project on Environmental Sustainability
Alyssa Pilla, a senior at Hillsboro High School and member of Girl Scout Troop 60243, was recognized for earning her Girl Scout Gold Award. Her project focused on environmental sustainability, educating the community on actions to reduce climate anxiety through cleanups, workshops, and seminars. She has also received a two-time presidential service award, was a Girl Scout national delegate, and interned at the Hillsboro Township Administrative Office. The proclamation extends congratulations to Alyssa and wishes her the best in her future endeavors.
