Hollister Council Member Explores Advanced Air Mobility and Job Creation at Joby Aviation Tour

The aircraft feature redundant battery banks and a ground support system for charging and cooling. Recharging takes approximately the time it takes to reboard passengers. Joby plans to offer air taxi services in the Monterey Bay region, including Hollister, and the Bay Area by 2028, with potential hybrid motor systems to extend range. The company is also developing a manufacturing arm to produce aircraft for others. Joby currently leases significant hanger space and is building a new 250,000 sq ft production facility, which is expected to add 800-1200 jobs. Bish suggested Hollister should compete to host a Joby production facility. Workforce development opportunities were also discussed, including programs for high school and college students in drone and UAS operations, drawing parallels to a successful program at Watsonville Airport. Joby expects to start pilot programs for flights between the Monterey Bay region, Hollister, and the Bay Area in 2028.
