Hot Shots Secures Retail Licenses; Performance Bonds Approved for Liberty Place
The council conducted a public hearing and approved retail beer and retail wine licenses for Hot Shots, located at 1910 4th Avenue South. The business, previously known as PAR 64 and the Jasper Axe House, applied for licenses for on or off-premise consumption. The police department raised no objections, and the owners, Rob and Christy Fondran, introduced themselves. The council also considered and approved two resolutions to accept performance bonds for the Liberty Place subdivision, with one bond for $71,445.
City Council Conducts Routine Business and Adjourns
The meeting included standard procedural items such as approving minutes from the May 19th meeting, considering agenda amendments (none were proposed), and approving the agenda. Public comments were opened and closed without any speakers. Council members also provided comments, with one member noting the mayor had covered upcoming community events. The meeting concluded with adjournment.
City Council Approves Event Permits for Summer Activities
The council considered and approved two event permits: 'Salsa on the Square,' a free community dance class by the Athletic Arts Center to be held every Monday in June and July at the Courthouse Square, and the fifth annual overdose awareness walk by the Recovery Den on August 31st at the Courthouse Square. Additionally, the council approved a reschedule for the Community Connections for Change Resource Fair to June 6th at Gamble Park after their original May 23rd date was rained out.
City Council Awards Contracts and Renews Healthcare Services
The council reviewed and approved bids for various contracts. Physician services were awarded to After Hours Clinic. Animal shelter improvements were awarded to JKN Incorporated, doing business as Cornerstone Construction. Additionally, the contract for comprehensive inmate healthcare was renewed with Preemptive Forensic Healthcare Solutions for another year under the same terms and pricing.
Solid Waste Plan Draft Introduced; Bridge Project Nears Completion; Firefighter Honored
The council was introduced to a draft of the updated solid waste management plan, developed by La Bella Engineering following council approval and funding in December. The plan is now available for council review, with subsequent steps including ADEM review, a public hearing, and formal adoption. The mayor also provided an update on the Blackwell Dairy Road Bridge project, stating that framing is nearly complete and asphalt is the remaining task, projecting completion within days or weeks. A recent Alabama Fire College graduate, Brent Baker, was recognized.
