Planning Commission Tables Major Industrial Rezoning, CUP, and Variance Applications Amidst Public Concern
The Planning Commission considered three applications related to Stone Mountain Industrial Properties: a rezoning with changes to conditions, a conditional use permit for metal manufacturing, and a variance for parking. The applicant requested a buffer reduction, an increase in impervious surface allowance, and a waiver for a traffic study. Staff recommended approval for all three applications. Public comment was extensive, with many residents expressing concerns about environmental impact, traffic, water usage, the lack of transparency due to NDAs, and the potential for the use to be dissimilar to light industrial. The applicant clarified the use as electrical switchgear manufacturing and assembly, with metal fabrication being a minor component. After extensive public comment and questions, the commission voted to table all three applications until August 3rd to allow for further information gathering, including a traffic study and the potential release of information related to the Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).
