Resident Raises Concerns Over Traffic, Speeding, and Vandalism Near Sky View Commons
A resident, Michelle Lemons, voiced concerns about excessive traffic, speeding, and trespassing near her apartment community, Sky View Commons, located off Meredith and Grassland Drive. She reported that a new fitness center, Everyday Athletics, has exacerbated these issues, leading to damaged bollards, fear for resident safety (including older residents), and increased instances of vandalism like egg throwing. Lemons requested speed limit signs, possibly 15 mph due to a curve, more bollards, and increased police patrols. The police chief acknowledged the issues and stated the department is aware of the increased traffic cutting through the neighborhood.

The council considered Ordinance 1479, series 2026, establishing the tax rate for Jefferson Town at $10.82 per $100 of assessed property value for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026. This rate was noted as being among the lowest in the region and not fully covering service costs. The ordinance also adopts the county assessment value. This was the first reading, with no further action required at this point.
T-Mobile Renovation Approved; City Considers Annexation of Two Land Tracts
The City Council considered Resolution 857, series 2026, regarding a revised detailed district development plan for a T-Mobile switch renovation at 11509 Commonwealth Drive. The plan includes replacing one generator with two, adding a 950 sq ft loading bay, and relocating electrical equipment and a dumpster. The property is zoned PEC and in the suburban workplace form district. The development review committee unanimously recommended approval of the waiver and the plan. The council also discussed Ordinance 1481, series 2026, related to the annexation of two tracks of land in Jefferson County, one approximately 87 acres in the north and another in the south. This annexation creates a more contiguous city boundary. A cost-benefit analysis for the annexation was requested and will be reviewed by the finance committee. The second reading for the annexation ordinance is scheduled for the first meeting in July, with public notices to be sent 14 days prior.

The council reviewed Ordinance 1482, series 2026, which amends previous ordinances related to employee compensation and classification. The proposed changes include adjustments to the G15 pay grade, an increase in full-time skilled laborers in public works from five to eight, and an increase in full-time telecommunicators in the police department from seven to eight (while maintaining seven part-time). This was the first reading of the ordinance.
