Geotechnical Engineering Services Approved for Hall Park Construction
The City Council approved a resolution to contract Kansas City Testing and Engineering for geotechnical engineering services related to construction at Hall Park. The project involves drilling nine bores to depths of 5 to 10 feet to test soil conditions. This is a necessary step as the city nears the selection of a general contractor for the park's construction. The recommended company has prior experience at Lion's Park.
Carney Proclaims June 15th as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
Mayor Randy Pogue presented a proclamation recognizing June 15th as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. The proclamation highlights the importance of treating older adults with respect and dignity, acknowledges elder abuse as a public health and human rights issue, and emphasizes the role of agism and social isolation as causes of elder abuse. It encourages community efforts to maintain social connections and supports for older adults, such as senior centers and human services. Marie Steiner from Klay County Senior Services read the proclamation and spoke about ways to support elders, including checking in on them, volunteering, and visiting senior centers. Residents are encouraged to wear purple on June 15th.
Carney Police Department Welcomes Two New Patrol Officers

Carney Proposes New Ordinances for Erosion Control and Stormwater Discharge
The city is proposing new chapters for the municipal code, specifically Chapter 236 for erosion and sediment control and Chapter 237 for illicit discharge and connections to the storm water system. These ordinances are part of the city's Stormwater Management Plan, which is a five-year process initiated in 2023 to comply with Missouri Department of Natural Resources requirements. The ordinances aim to protect residents from construction-related issues like erosion and mud, and to safeguard public health and water quality by preventing pollutants from entering the storm sewer system and local waterways. The ordinances will be presented for adoption at the next board meeting.
Carney Adopts 'Connected Carney Plan' to Boost Pedestrian Safety and Transportation Options
The City Council reviewed and adopted the 'Connected Carney Plan', a citywide connectivity initiative aimed at improving pedestrian safety and expanding transportation options, with downtown Carney designated as the community's core. The plan was funded by a sustainable places grant and developed in partnership with the Mid-America Regional Council, incorporating extensive community input. Adopting this plan positions the city to better pursue future grant opportunities by providing a clear vision, identifying priority projects, and aligning with regional and local objectives.
