City Council Considers Amendments to Ordinance on Business Establishment Orderliness
The council is considering an ordinance to amend Chapter 13, Section 13-42 of the city code of ordinances regarding the maintenance and quiet order of business establishments. The proposed amendment changes the measurement for infractions from 'two blocks' to '300 feet from the property line of the establishment'. An amendment was also proposed to change 'shall' to 'may' in subsection A, regarding whether a business owner is subject to infraction if an incident occurs within the 300-foot area. The measurement is to be from the property line, not the front door.
Rezoning Application for Accessory Storage Structure Referred Back to Planning Commission
The council considered an ordinance to amend the official zoning map from a residential zoning district to a mixed-use zoning district, companion with a major conditional use permit, to construct an accessory storage structure for a business at 708 East School Street. The Planning and Zoning Commission recommended denial because the applicant did not attend the meeting. The applicant stated he was unaware he needed to attend and provided documentation. The council voted to refer the item back to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
Lafayette and Ferguson Waterworks Awarded Contracts for Water Infrastructure Parts
The council is considering an ordinance accepting the lowest responsive and responsible bids for the purchase of water infrastructure maintenance and repair parts. Lafayette Waterworks and Ferguson Waterworks were the selected bidders for different categories of parts. Lafayette Waterworks bid was $57,141.74 for category 10, and Ferguson Waterworks bid was $133,775.30 for categories 1, 2, 3, 14, 16, and 30.
City to Solicit Proposals for Lakefront Food, Beverage, and Recreational Establishment
The council is considering a resolution authorizing the city to solicit proposals and advertise for a developer to design, build, finance, own, operate, and maintain a food and beverage and recreational establishment on approximately one acre of the lakefront property. This process is required by Louisiana Revised Statute 41:1214. The city will include provisions in the request for proposals, such as requiring the developer to put a stage on site and to list the city as an additional insured on their policies. The former wildlife fisheries building property has been demolished, leaving a grassy area.
Council Approves Duplex Construction via Conditional Use Permit, Denies Rezoning
The council considered an ordinance to rezone a property from residential to mixed-use to allow for the construction of a duplex, accompanied by a major conditional use permit. The Planning Commission recommended against rezoning but allowed for the duplex construction via the conditional use permit. The applicant, Jada Fusilair, agreed to this recommendation. The council voted to uphold the Planning Commission's recommendation.
