City Council Authorizes Three-Year VMware Server License Purchase Amidst Broadcom Acquisition

The city council approved a cooperative purchase of VMware server licenses from Sterling Computers Corporation, accepting the Broadcom terms and conditions. VMware, a subsidiary of Broadcom, is critical for the city's data center server virtualization, enabling the operation of 100 to 135 virtual servers on five physical nodes. This system allows for managing servers, re-routing traffic if a server goes offline, and monitoring performance. The annual cost for these licenses is $134,400. The agreement is for a three-year period, as Broadcom, having recently purchased VMware, requires clients to commit to this term for pricing. The motion to approve the purchase and accept the terms was made by Vice Mayor Diaz and seconded by Council Member Moses, passing six to zero.

Lake Havsu Lighthouse Club Seeks Assistance for Lighthouse Maintenance Amidst Rising Costs and Vandalism

The Lake Havsu City Council heard a presentation from Rachel Hughes of the Lake Havsu Lighthouse Club, a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to preserving and repairing the city's lighthouses. The club, entirely volunteer-staffed and self-funded through donations and book sales, faces rising maintenance costs due to wear and tear, and increasing vandalism. They requested assistance and guidance in securing additional funds for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Currently, there are 28 lighthouses, with many requiring paint, battery replacement, and concrete repair. Vandalism, including graffiti and physical damage, has become a significant issue, particularly for accessible lighthouses on the islands. The club emphasized that without external support, the lighthouses, a significant tourist attraction, are at risk. The council acknowledged the club's efforts and the unique value they bring to the city.

Perco Rock Company Secures Contract for Walnut Drive Drop Structure Replacement

The city council considered awarding Job Order Contract (JOC) Task Order Agreement Number Two for the Walnut Drive drop structure at Daytona Wash Crossing to Perco Rock Company. This project addresses a critical need identified by the streets division to replace a drop structure that posed a risk of washout on Walnut Drive, potentially leading to road closure. The project includes safety improvements for pedestrian crossings, stormwater management, and energy dissipation. The existing drop structure is in critical need of replacement, with downstream scour issues also noted. The contract amount awarded to Perco Rock Company was $48,420. Funding for this project comes from flood control savings realized from previous work. The council approved the motion, with Vice Mayor Diaz making the motion and Council Member Moses seconding, passing six to zero.

Perco Rock Company Awarded Contract for Puma Wash Drop Structures; Owl Protection Delays Section of Work

The city council recommended awarding Job Order Contract (JOC) Task Order Number One for two drop structures in the Puma Wash CIP project, located at El Dorado Avenue and Bluewater Drive, to Perco Rock Company for $60,903. This project is the final one from the 2015 Wash Management Plan. Key highlights include safety improvements such as safe pedestrian crossings and stormwater management controls, along with energy dissipation measures. A portion of the wash reach, approximately 3,000 lineal feet, will be deferred until later in the fall due to the presence of burrowing owls, adhering to federal and state guidelines for migratory bird protection. The project aims to improve safety for pedestrians crossing streets and manage stormwater runoff effectively. Funding for this phase comes from the existing CIP budget.
