Township Approves Three-Year Extension for Waste Collection Services with Pen Waste

The board discussed and approved a three-year extension for the waste collection, transportation, and disposal agreement with Pen Waste, running from 2027 through 2029. The decision was based on staff recommendations prioritizing immediate cost reduction, rate stability, and flexibility for future decisions. Option one, the three-year extension, was recommended over rebidding the contract, which was considered time-consuming and potentially more expensive. Concerns were raised by commissioners regarding the pricing structure for additional refuse carts and the lack of resident input in previous contract negotiations. A committee involving commissioners and staff will be formed to review future bid specifications. The approved motion included the additional service option for an extra cart at a discounted rate.

Additionally, an application was received for 257 Gettysburg Road, a vacant property, seeking a special exception for parking reduction, vehicle stacking behind a menu board, and a reduced sideyard buffer from 25 ft to 10 ft. This application will be reviewed at the June meeting.

Intersection Improvements Underway; Pedestrian Upgrades Planned for Multiple Locations

Improvements at the Carile Road and Center Street intersection are nearing completion, with the signal expected to go live on June 9th, pending final inspection. The 18th and Home project, including pedestrian improvements, is scheduled to go out for bid around June 25th, with construction expected to begin in late July.
