Lumberton Township Committee Meeting June 4, 2026
Thursday, Jun 4, 2026
Township to Seek DOT Grant for Crispen Road Repaving
The township committee approved a resolution authorizing the submission of a grant application to the New Jersey Department of Transportation Municipal Aid Grant Program for Crispen Road. The grant, if awarded, would fund repaving or reconstruction of the roadway. The township is applying to the DOT for the necessary funds to complete the work [cite: 73, 82-86, 444-457].
Township to Support Southampton Development's DOT Access Change Request
The committee considered a request for a letter of support from Southampton Township regarding a development approved at the intersection of Route 206 and Route 38. The development is located entirely within Southampton, but the applicant is petitioning the NJ DOT for an access level change on Route 38 to allow for construction of an access point. Southampton Township has already approved the development and provided a letter of support. Lumberton's support is requested to bolster the applicant's case with the DOT. The township engineer recommended providing the letter of support, noting that it would not create any financial risk or impact on Lumberton's infrastructure, and could potentially direct traffic towards Route 206. The committee approved the motion to provide the letter of support [cite: 137-193, 201-221, 244-254, 314-337].
Township Cautions Against Comment on Ongoing Criminal Matter
Township attorney Nick Sullivan issued a statement reminding the public that an indictment is not a finding of guilt and that the individual involved in an ongoing criminal matter remains innocent until proven guilty. The township, its employees, and officials will not comment on the matter due to it being active and ongoing, to protect the legal process and individual rights. The statement clarified that the individual is not an employee or official of the township. The township appreciates the public's patience and understanding [cite: 408-438].
Township Committee Approves Multiple Resolutions and Personnel Actions
The committee approved several resolutions, including appointing Zoe Rodriguez as a basic police recruit, rescinding a previous resolution, approving items of revenue and appropriation for the NJ Clean Communities Grant, authorizing the submission of a grant application for Crispen Road, authorizing the release of a performance guarantee for 20 Maple Avenue LLC, approving updated personnel policies and employee handbook, approving annual renewal of ABC liquor licenses for RC May LLC and Morerti Realy Corporation (trading as Public House), approving 2026-2027 ABC license renewals, and authorizing the hire of Lumberton Township public works labor Gavin Deini. A motion to approve these items on the consent agenda was made and passed with a unanimous roll call vote [cite: 71-116, 117-127].
Land Development Board Meeting Rescheduled; Resident Concerns Addressed
The Land Development Board meeting scheduled for June 11th was cancelled and rescheduled to July 30th. The applicant has the right to request a special meeting, which they did to allow more time for the hearing of their application, as it is a large development expected to take more than one night. This also allows for information to remain fresh for board members and the public. The applicant pays for professionals for the special meeting and a $3,000 fee to the town. The meeting is a planned board meeting that will be advertised and open to the public, similar to any other regular meeting. Residents are advised to contact the county planning board regarding improvements on Aristown Road, as it is a county issue [cite: 861-934].
