Mayor's Golf Outing Planning Underway; Honorees Announced
Jeff Greenfield, Chairman of the Mayor's Golf Outing, provided an update on the upcoming event. The outing is scheduled for Monday, August 17th, at Inwood Country Club and Seaway Club, with dinner at the Inwood Club. Registration is slower than desired, but brochures and a QR code are available for sign-ups online and in the lobby and library. The event will honor three individuals: Bruce Levit from Merly's, Michael Paladino of Paladino Inc., and Dr. Ben Tidniba from Lindbrook High School, recognized for his work with the Key Club and business program. Sunrise Volkswagen and Audi of Lindbrook are donating hole-in-one cars. The event is co-sponsored by the Lindbrook Chamber of Commerce, with opportunities for individual and custom sponsorships. Non-golfers can attend the dinner.
Road Improvements Approved; Solid Waste Disposal Contract Renewed
The board approved a $600,000 expenditure for road improvements, specifically for the remaining 40-50% of a street that needs repair. This decision was made to secure a favorable price before anticipated increases in asphalt and disposal costs. Additionally, the board approved a renewal of the solid waste disposal services contract with Coanta Substantial Solutions, LLC (Reworld). The contract covers household waste for five additional years, with escalating per-ton fees from $91.30 in the sixth year to $103.89 in the tenth year. Recycling, bulky, and heavy waste services will still require separate bids.
Community Events, Graduations, and Youth Achievements Highlighted
Trustee Reed reminded residents about Memorial Day weekend events, including the parade and ceremony at the Doughboy, honoring veterans. Jake Curran, son of former Mayor Curran, is graduating from West Point. Congratulations were also extended to Amry's son and Mike's daughter on their college graduations. The library will host a Flag Day jazz celebration on June 14th, kicking off the America 250 celebration. Two local high school students, Daniela and Sarah, were honored by Assemblywoman Griffin for their accomplishments. Mayor Beach urged residents to attend Memorial Day festivities and thanked veterans. He also congratulated Sergeant Burke and Lieutenant Haffy on their promotions. The mayor praised the thoughtfulness of youth projects, specifically mentioning Joe's Eagle Scout project on food allergies and the Love for Giovanni Foundation's continued awareness efforts. He also congratulated Jake Curran on his West Point graduation and distinguished military career.
