Planning Commission Retires Historic District Remodel Docket, Recommends Denial for I-3 Rezoning Request
The Planning Commission discussed docket number PC26004, a remodeling project in the historic downtown district for Jesse Logston, which was tabled for a second or third time. The petitioner is awaiting information from the state regarding permits and safety systems. The commission decided to retire the docket, advising Mr. Logston to reapply once he has all necessary information. Additionally, the commission considered docket number PC 26011, a rezoning request from R1 to Industrial 3 for DeRossett Properties LLC at West Adam Brick Avenue, lots 9-13. The applicant, David DeRossett, believes the zoning should be reverted to its original I-3 status from before 2002, citing a lack of notification for previous changes. Staff and commission members noted that the current zoning is R1 and that I-3 zoning has significant requirements, including a minimum of five acres, which the 0.696-acre property does not meet. Concerns were raised by a resident, Robin Parker, about potential pollution and hazardous materials associated with I-3 zoning in a residential-adjacent area. The commission voted to recommend denial of the rezoning request to the City Council, citing the unmet acreage requirement and the nature of I-3 zoning. The applicant can still present the case to the City Council.
