City Planning Commission Recommends Modifying Cannabis Zoning to Allow More Locations
The Planning Commission considered an ordinance to amend the commercial cannabis portion of the zoning code. The proposed amendment aims to rectify an unintended consequence of a previous update that made it virtually impossible to locate commercial cannabis facilities due to a 500-foot buffer from residential zones. The ordinance would retain the 500-foot buffer in R1 and R2 zones but remove it in all other zones. Commercial cannabis uses would still require a conditional use permit from the Planning Commission on a case-by-case basis. This change was initiated by the potential relocation of Wild Seed and the expansion plans of Perfect Union. The commission moved to recommend approval to the city council.
