City Considers Annexation and Land Use Changes for Clawson Point Edition

Ordinance 1178, accepting the annexation of land known as Clawson Point Edition, was presented for its first reading. This ordinance makes Clawson Point Edition a part of the city, assigns it to Ward 4, and includes other provisions. The issue was previously tabled about a year ago pending county-level filings, which have now been completed. Subsequently, Ordinance 1179, amending the Mamel zoning map for Clawson Point Edition, and Ordinance 1180, amending the Mamel land use plan and map for Clawson Point Edition, were also presented for first readings. During discussion on Ordinance 1180, it was noted that while the current plan is for all residential use, there have been discussions about potentially incorporating light commercial on the Highway 365 frontage.

City Condemns Dilapidated Structure, Votes on Resolution for Fire-Damaged Property

Resolution 2026-18 was approved, declaring an accessory building at 41 Oilia Drive a nuisance, condemning it, and ordering its removal. City Attorney Scott Grummer presented the case, noting the structure is dilapidated, visible from Milwood Circle, and has buzzards roosting in it. Staff requested condemnation to facilitate removal. Mid First Bank, represented by attorney Aaron Squires, requested a 30-day extension on the vote for a property at 113 Oakridge Cove (Resolution 2026-9) due to ongoing foreclosure proceedings and the need to confirm occupancy and file an insurance claim after a structure fire and felony arson charge against the owner, Jennifer Corvo. However, Council Member Gardner argued against the delay, citing the property's history and the city's need for condemnation authority to maintain property security. The council ultimately voted to adopt Resolution 2026-9, condemning the structure at 113 Oakridge Cove.

Council Member Voices Concerns Over Persistent Power Outages in Older City Wards

Council Member Tierney raised concerns about recurring power outages in her ward, stating she has experienced more outages this year than in all previous years combined. She recalled a past discussion with an Energy representative who promised wiring replacement within five years, a plan that has not materialized. She noted that older areas of the city, like her ward, should have been updated to modern standards. Other council members and an audience member confirmed experiencing power outages.
