Aquatic Supervisor James Dean Honored for 10 Years of Service and Life-Saving Efforts
The city council recognized James Dean for his 10 years of dedicated service as an aquatic supervisor. Colleagues and superiors commended his commitment to life safety, his proactive approach to staff training, and the instances where he and his staff have saved lives. Dean himself expressed gratitude for his time with the city since 2008, highlighting the rewarding experience of seeing individuals he's worked with progress in their careers and contribute to the community.
City Council Approves Pension Plan Revisions, Delays 36th Street Election, and Plans Centennial Celebration Road Closures
The city council discussed and approved the first reading of an ordinance to revise the employees retirement system and police and fire pension plan. The revision allows general employees and police/fire members to purchase permissive service credit, up to five years. Employees must bear the cost of purchasing this credit, which is based on what they would have contributed for those years. This is intended as a recruitment tool for the city. The council also discussed delaying the special election and ballot question for Northwest 36th Street from August to November to allow for better public communication and to align with potential state property tax relief discussions. Additionally, the council approved a temporary full circle road closure for the city's centennial celebration on August 22nd, which will include the unveiling of the Glenn Curtis statue, music, amusement rides, and vendors.
