Township Designates Historic Railroad Bridges and Church

The Burn Township Planning Board reviewed two ordinances related to historic designations. Ordinance 2755-26 designates railroad bridges associated with the Morrison Essex and Old Main Delaware, Lacawana, and Western Railroad as a thematic historic district, preserving 11 train bridges. Ordinance 2754-26 designates the Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church at 54 Church Street as a historic landmark, recognizing its historical and cultural significance. Both ordinances were found to be consistent with the township's master plan, with a minor correction made regarding which bridge was designated as the 'key contributing structure'. The board unanimously approved resolutions finding both ordinances not inconsistent with the master plan.

Updated Interactive Environmental Resource Inventory Presented

The Burn Township Planning Board received a presentation on the updated Environmental Resource Inventory (ERI) by Princeton Hydro and the township's Environmental Commission. The ERI, last updated in 2014, has been transformed into an interactive, web-based document. It provides a baseline of the township's environmental resources, including updated data on demographics, land use, water resources, forests, wetlands, and climate change. The interactive format enhances public accessibility and utility for planning purposes. Key findings include stable land use with a predominantly residential landscape, enhanced water and flood mapping updated to recent FEMA studies, improved mapping of regulated resources, and updated climate change projections showing increased extreme heat and precipitation. The ERI is intended to serve as a foundational tool for future master plan updates, ordinance review, and grant applications, with the potential to be a living document updated as new data becomes available. The board acknowledged its utility for planning and potential future adoption.

New York Country Club Pool Area Revitalization Approved

The Burn Township Planning Board granted minor site plan approval for the New York Country Club (Application 26-005) to revitalize and modernize its existing pool amenity area. The project includes modifications and expansion of existing pools and patios, grading improvements, retaining walls, fencing, and replacement of the pool equipment building. The proposed improvements are fully compliant with township zoning requirements and do not require any variance relief. The board also approved five requested checklist waivers. The project will increase impervious coverage by approximately 0.5 acres, classifying it as a major stormwater development, and the club has committed to complying with necessary stormwater infrastructure revisions. Seven trees will be removed and replaced with twelve, and landscaping will be enhanced. The board approved the application with conditions based on the applicant's commitment to comply with all departmental comments and reports.
