Village Board Issues Proclamations for EMS, Public Works, Building Safety, Economic Development, Crossing Guards, and ALS Awareness
The Village Board acknowledged several proclamations. These included designating the week of May 17th-23rd, 2026, as Emergency Medical Services Week to honor their life-saving services; declaring May 17th-23rd, 2026, as Public Works Week to recognize the vital infrastructure work performed by public works professionals; and proclaiming May 2026 as Building Safety Month to highlight the importance of safe construction practices and the role of building officials. Additionally, the board recognized the Mundelein Economic Development Commission for its advisory role and initiatives like the Business Incentive Grant program. May 19th, 2026, was declared Crossing Guard Appreciation Day to acknowledge their role in child safety, and May 2026 was proclaimed ALS Awareness Month to raise awareness for the neurodegenerative disease.
El Monica's Mexican Restaurant Granted Liquor License
The village board approved a Class D liquor license for El Monica's Mexican Restaurant, located at 839 South Lake Street. The restaurant, which has been serving the community for 26 years and has been under current ownership for nearly two years, requested the license to offer beer and wine to complement its food offerings and enhance the customer dining experience. The owners emphasized their commitment to maintaining a family-friendly environment, responsible alcohol service, and continued investment in the business and the village. The board expressed support for the request, and the applicants were advised to pick up the application forms.
Custodial Service Agreement Extended with Best Quality Cleaning LLC
The Village Board approved a fiscal year 27 custodial service agreement, waiving bids and authorizing the director of public works to sign the contract extension with Best Quality Cleaning LLC of Friendsland Park, Illinois. Purchase order number 27-01084 was approved in the amount of $88,900. The motion passed unanimously.
Bulk Rock Salt Contract Approved with Compass Minerals America Inc.
The Village Board approved the bulk rock salt contract between the Village of Mundelein and Compass Minerals America Inc. of Oberland Park, Kansas. The motion was made by Trustee Lambert, seconded by Trustee Juarez, and passed unanimously.
Updated Emergency Operations Plan Approved
The Village Board authorized the mayor and department heads to sign the updated Emergency Operations Plan for the Village of Mundelein, which has been approved by the Lake County Emergency Management Agency. The motion was made by Trustee Auguste, seconded by Lambert, and passed unanimously.
