Planning Board Denies Special Permit for Car Wash at 625 Worcester Street
The Planning Board considered a special permit application and site plan review for a proposed car wash and detailing facility at 625 Worcester Street. After multiple public hearings and extensive review of submitted materials, including traffic and noise studies, and considering public testimony, the board determined that the applicant failed to meet the required findings for approval. Concerns centered on traffic flow, safety, neighborhood character, and adequacy of utilities. The board was unable to find that the proposed use would not adversely affect traffic operations, create traffic circulation and safety concerns, or that the site design provided safe and efficient vehicular access. Specifically, the board cited issues with vehicle queuing, ingress/egress, traffic spillback, and the interaction between site operations and existing conditions on Route 9. The board also noted concerns about noise impacts and the adequacy of utilities. Ultimately, the board voted to deny the application in its entirety.
