Historic Smith Street Jail Interior Renovation Approved

The committee approved an agreement with Titan Enterprises for the interior renovation of the Smith Street Jail, a historic building. The project aims to restore the first floor for exhibits on the jail's history, the second floor to house the city and historical society's pottery collection, and the third floor for collection storage. The building, originally converted in the 1970s, suffered fire damage in 2010. Previous work included restoring the exterior envelope, windows, and masonry using insurance proceeds and a state grant for ADA access. The current project will install electrical, heating, and cooling systems. The total contract is $478,000, with an additional $47,800 authorized for change orders.

Wolfpit Elementary School AC and Electrical Upgrades Approved

The committee authorized the mayor to execute an agreement with Olympus Construction for air conditioning and electrical upgrades at Wolfpit Elementary School, not to exceed $676,000. Additionally, NPS facilities department was authorized to issue change orders up to $67,600. This project is the final in a series of upgrades for nine schools, aiming to ensure all schools have air conditioning before the summer. The upgrades are part of a temporary solution to improve the learning environment, with a focus on immediate cooling needs rather than extensive, long-term HVAC studies. The project follows a similar successful upgrade at Tracy Elementary School.

City Hall Adopts Emergency Security Software

The committee approved a purchase order for Raptor Technologies LLC to provide annual emergency security management software subscriptions for City Hall. This app, which resides on employees' phones, connects directly to dispatch and the police department to communicate during emergencies, providing location and situation details. The system is already used successfully in school buildings. The agreement has an initial fee and an annual cost, with automatic renewal requiring council approval. The cost is considered low for an added layer of security.
