Oak Harbor City Council Approves Parks and Recreation Fee Schedule Update

Oak Harbor City Council Passes New Ordinance Restricting RV and Trailer Parking

The ordinance establishes a 12-hour limit for parking these vehicles on public right-of-ways city-wide. It includes a residential loading exception allowing parking for up to 5 days at a person's residence for loading, unloading, cleaning, and mechanical preparation, with a reset period after 72 hours of removal. A permitting system was added, allowing residents to permit such vehicles for up to 14 days, renewable twice for a total of six weeks per calendar year, with no fee. The ordinance also clarifies definitions for these vehicle types and outlines enforcement procedures, including a standard 24-hour tow notice for most violations, with immediate removal possible for designated hazards. The council engaged in a lengthy discussion about the ordinance's impact, balancing public safety and accessibility with property rights and resident concerns, ultimately voting to approve it after revisions addressing liability and cost allocation.
