City Officials Voice Concerns Over State Tax Reform, Emphasize Home Rule
Several city officials expressed deep concern regarding a recently adopted state legislative joint resolution for tax reform, which will be placed on the ballot. They highlighted the potential for 'catastrophic sweeping implications' and the constitutional nature of the bill, making it difficult to roll back. Officials emphasized the long-term impact on future generations and the erosion of home rule, questioning the state's authority to dictate local fiscal matters. The city plans to educate citizens on the facts and impacts of the proposed tax reform through websites, flyers, and community meetings, while adhering to legal guidelines to avoid lobbying against the ballot language. There is a call for public engagement and holding elected officials accountable for consistent positions on home rule.

Michael Montgomery was appointed to the regular member seat, and Bradley Jackson was appointed as an alternate member. A third alternate seat remains vacant, for which the city will continue to seek applicants.
