Peekskill Rotary Awaits City Decision on Relocating 9-11 Memorial Tree
Councilman Riger followed up on a previous report regarding the Peekskill Rotary's 9-11 memorial tree. The Rotary wishes to move the existing memorial and plant a new tree, with the hope of unveiling it on the 25th anniversary of 9-11. They are awaiting word from the city regarding the location for the new tree and memorial, and have had discussions with the Fire Department regarding a potential location within the actual memorial area.
Peekskill Comprehensive Plan Outreach Continues; Flyers to be Distributed
Councilwoman Cheng reported on her outreach efforts regarding the comprehensive plan, 'The Peekskill Plan.' She received a request from a senior to provide more flyers to the Senior Advisory meeting and a business meeting. Flyers will be provided on Thursday. She also noted that seniors requested information.
Peekskill Secures $133,202 Contract for Senior Wellness and Nutrition Program
The city has been awarded a contract of $133,202 for the 2025-2026 Wellness and Nutrition Program, supporting the cold supper program for the senior center. Of this amount, $9,519 comes from federal funds and $123,683 from state funds. The city is seeking approval to accept this award and enter into a contract with Westchester County. No city match is required.
Peekskill Considers Adjusting 15-Minute Parking Zone on Welcher Avenue
The business owner at 241 Welcher Avenue has requested an amendment to the existing 15-minute parking regulation at the intersection with Washington Street. Originally, the signs were knocked down and never replaced, but the area was deemed a 15-minute zone. The owner requests the restriction be limited to the hours of 6 a.m. through 6 p.m., seven days a week. A review found the amendment to be reasonable and likely to improve customer access while reducing unnecessary overnight restrictions. The zone typically includes four to five parking spaces.
Peekskill to Host Pride Flag Raising Event to Launch Pride Month
Councilman DeGruggio announced that Peekskill Pride will host a Pride flag raising event at City Hall on Friday, June 5th, at 6:30 p.m., to kick off Pride Month. He noted that Peekskill Pride has planned numerous events throughout June and welcomed everyone to the City Hall ceremony.
