City Proposes New Regulations for Vape Shops, Including Special Exception and Buffer Zones
The city is proposing a text amendment to define and regulate vape shops across all zoning districts, classifying them as a special exception. The amendment includes a definition for vape shops (where 30% or more of inventory, display, or sales are vape-related products), prohibits sales to individuals under 21, mandates a 2,000-foot buffer from daycares/schools and other vape shops, and limits one vape shop per 10,000 residents. Windows must be see-through, and drive-through service is prohibited. The proposal aims to regulate the growing prevalence of vape shops.
City Proposes Text Amendment for Unified Building Identifiers on Mixed-Use Developments
The city is proposing a text amendment to the land management ordinance to allow for 'unified building identifiers' on mixed-use developments with multiple commercial tenants. Currently, individual tenants can have signs, but the building itself cannot bear a name. This amendment would enable a single building identification sign, such as 'The District Downtown' for the former Ryade building. This aims to support future mixed-use developments and branding efforts.

These will be leased for three years through GMA, with a 5.6% interest rate and a total amount of $84,140.
St. Patrick's Drive Extension Utility Relocation Project Estimated at $511,261.25; Seeking GDOT Funding
A project for the St. Patrick's Drive extension involves utility relocations, with an estimated cost of $511,261.25. While sewer and gas utilities could be left in place, saving nearly a million dollars, the water main must be upgraded from an 8-inch to a 12-inch line. The city is seeking utility funding through GDOT to offset costs, similar to assistance received for the Hendrickx Bridge project. The project is a SPLOST countywide project, with the state and county investing approximately $18 million.
