Pineville High School Softball Team Honored for State Championship Victory
The Pineville High School softball team was recognized for winning the 2026 LHSA state championship. This marks the fourth time in a few months that Pineville High has been recognized by the city council, following achievements in cheerleading, soccer, and an art show. The team's identity was defined by "Pineville proud," representing their community and a legacy of excellence. They achieved a record of 29-9 and an undefeated home record, bringing the state championship back to Pineville for the first time since 1998, ending a 28-year drought. The coach and players were presented with a key to the city.
Council Approves AT&T Franchise Fee, Schedules Condemnation Hearings, Greenlights Shadow Creek Ranch Phase 4, and Imposes Barn Dominium Moratorium
The council introduced an ordinance to establish a franchise fee with Bell South Telecommunication LLC, doing business as AT&T Louisiana. They also approved resolutions to serve notice to property owners at 115 Greer Street, 105 Wood Street, and 1224 Ary Street to schedule public hearings for condemnation. Additionally, resolutions were passed to issue developer permit agreements with Jaws Holding LLC for various improvements for Shadow Creek Ranch subdivision phase 4, including waste distribution, fire protection, roadway drainage, and street signage. This phase will add 28 new homes, requiring concrete streets with curbs and gutters, and homes must meet or exceed existing quality standards. A 90-day moratorium was imposed on the acceptance and approval of applications for the construction of barn dominiums to allow for language and guidance development, particularly concerning existing subdivisions and maintaining aesthetic standards.
City Council Reviews Positive April Financials Amidst Fuel Price Concerns
The city council reviewed the financial report for April 2026. Sales tax collections were up $294,000 compared to the previous year, contributing to a positive year-to-date collection of 1.45%. Occupational licenses also showed an increase. However, concerns were raised about the potential negative impact of high fuel prices on future sales tax revenue, as consumers may spend less on retail goods if more money is spent on fuel. A finance committee meeting is scheduled for June 8th, 2026.
Parks and Recreation Department Declares Surplus Items for Disposal
The council approved a resolution declaring surplus items in the Parks and Recreation Department for the purpose of selling, donating, auctioning, or disposing of them as necessary.
