Fire Chief Warns of Dry Fire Season, Urges Weed Abatement Compliance; Suspect Arrested for Freeway Fire
Chief Bachmeyer reported that fire season outlooks for June, July, and August indicate drier and potentially warmer weather. He reminded residents that by June 1st, all weed abatement notices would have been issued, and inspections and code enforcement for weed abatement ordinances would begin on June 1st. Despite recent cooler weather, the department responded to a vegetation fire on the freeway near Wilcox, where two separate fires were located. Thanks to caller descriptions and assistance from Red Bluff PD and Cal Fire, a suspect was located, arrested, and charged.
Water Department Praised for Complex Water Main Valve Replacement and Service Restoration
During the Public Works activities report, the Water Department was highlighted for replacing a complex three-valve assembly on eight-inch water mains near the new courthouse. This work was completed without issues, re-establishing services effectively. The department also assisted with a main cut-in for the Palm Gilles project and other water shut-offs. The report commended the water department for their exemplary service and hard work.
City Council Approves Ordinance Establishing Public Records Request Procedures
The City Council discussed adding a new section to the municipal code to establish clear procedures and timelines for public records requests, designating the Deputy City Clerk as the Public Records Act Coordinator. This ordinance, number 1095, is procedural and aims to streamline handling of requests without changing public access rights. Fees will be limited to direct duplication costs, and free record inspection remains in place. The council introduced the first reading of the ordinance, conducted a public hearing with no public comments, and then unanimously approved it.
