City Declares Surplus Police Department Property for Auction

The city council approved an order to declare a list of surplus property, submitted by the police department for May 2026, as no longer needed by the city. This property will be sold via electronic auction on govdeals.com following legal publication. The list includes items such as tablet computers, a box of jewelry, collectible toy cars, comic books, and children's toys.

Additional Signage Approved for Richmond Regional Sports Complex

The city council approved an order for a change order for the wayfinding and signage bid package for the Richmond Regional Sports Complex. The change order, number one, with Instant Signs (Sign Magic 2, Inc.), includes additional kiosk signs, trail signs, 'you are here' signs, disc golf signs, and interpretive display signs, along with a correction in pricing. The total additional cost is $64,366.16, to be funded from the Richmond Regional Sports Complex project general obligation series three bond. This change was recommended by the Parks and Recreation Director and the Mayor after an on-site review to improve directional signage within the large complex.

City Council Schedules Public Hearing on Amberly Way Rezoning Proposal

The city council discussed and voted on a zoning map amendment for a property located at Amberly Way, totaling 21.863 acres. The property is currently zoned B1 (neighborhood business) and P1 (professional offices). The application requested a change to B3 (highway business). The Planning and Zoning Commission initially had a tie vote (3-3) with no recommendation. After reconsideration, following KRS 100.211, the commission granted the zone change (4-3). The board of commissioners then held a first reading of the ordinance. Due to concerns about the implications of a B3 zoning, including potential impacts on traffic, neighborhood character, and property values, the board voted to authorize legal counsel to arrange for a public hearing on the matter within the 90-day statutory timeframe before the second reading and final determination. This hearing will allow for the collection of further evidence and the creation of specific findings of fact to support any potential denial.

Public Works Department Adds Two Laborers

The city council approved an order to hire two additional full-time Laborer One employees for the Public Works Department. The hiring is contingent upon their successful completion of pre-employment requirements, and they will be effective starting June 1st. The individuals hired are Felix Cles and Brandon Robinson.
